Induction Museum Visit

Following the first day of the Foundation course last Monday, the class met at South Kensington underground station - pictured above - in order to visit several museums in the area, most notably the Victoria & Albert. Further pictures of exhibits will follow, so I've decided to feature this image of South Kensington's underground walkway, a passage that connects the station to the museums.

I took a particular interest the design of patterns throughout the V&A's exhibits. Pictured above are certain designs that I took note of; the latter is a geometric pattern carved into wood which I replicated in a sketch while at the museum. While somewhat inaccurate in proportion due to the lack of appropriate means of measuring, the drawing focuses on the repetitive nature of the pattern; I learned through the observational sketch that the shapes of all the connecting sections are identical.

Deviating slightly from the rest of the exhibits I took an interest in, this key struck me as having a particularly ornate design. Featured below is an observational sketch I completed during the museum visit; like the last sketch, it is slightly disproportionate in nature - although that is partly because I had to take a picture of the sketch with a camera, creating a slight distortion from the angle. I focused more heavily on the ornamentation on the top of the item than on the proportional accuracy.
